New Deadlines for RoHS Directive and Exemptions

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive restricts the use of specific hazardous materials, including lead, in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). Certain exemptions exist when elimination or substitution is technically impractical. Recent proposals by the European Commission suggest specific expiry dates for various lead-related exemptions, notably those concerning lead as an alloying element in materials such as steel, aluminum, and copper. For instance, exemptions 6(a) and 6(b) are proposed to expire 12 months after the entry into force of the delegated act, while exemptions 7(c)-I (Electrical and electronic components containing lead in a glass or ceramic other than dielectric ceramic in capacitors, e.g., piezoelectronic devices, or in a glass or ceramic matrix compound) are set to expire on December 31, 2026.

PUI Audio’s Lead-Free Product Offerings

PUI Audio provides a range of lead-free audio components that comply with RoHS regulations without relying on exemptions. Our lead-free piezo benders are available in various sizes and resonant frequencies, suitable for applications where space is limited, multiple tones are required, and high output with low power consumption is essential. These components are ideal for use in media players, smoke detectors, switches, contact microphones, and actuators.

In addition to benders, we are developing lead-free buzzers that provide reliable audio alerts across various industries, including medical, industrial, automotive, and consumer sectors. These buzzers are designed to deliver consistent performance while adhering to environmental regulations.
