New PUI Audio Exciters Combine Audio Playback and Haptic Feedback in One Compact Component
PUI Audio’s newest exciters produce sound and tactile feedback by vibrating the surface they are attached to, allowing sealed panels, displays, and device housings to act as both the speaker surface and the haptic interface. These components are designed for compact products where a traditional speaker grille, open acoustic cavity, or separate haptic actuator may not be practical.
At PUI Audio, we continue to advance speaker and receiver solutions while expanding the ways engineers can integrate acoustic playback and tactile response into modern product designs.
Our newest exciter product line is built to transfer vibration directly into structural surfaces or display screens. Instead of relying on a conventional speaker cone and front-facing grille, an exciter bonds to the product surface and uses that material as the radiating element.
The result is simple: one compact component can support both audible output and physical touch feedback.
Surface Audio Without the Speaker Grille
Traditional speakers often require openings, grilles, and defined acoustic cavities. Those features can be difficult to package in sealed, rugged, medical, industrial, or compact consumer devices.
Exciters solve a different problem. They allow sound and vibration to come from the surface already present in the product.
That makes them suitable for:
| Application | Design Benefit |
| Sealed displays | Audio and touch feedback through the screen or cover surface |
| Rugged control panels | Fewer exposed openings |
| Medical devices | Cleanable, sealed exterior surfaces |
| Security keypads | Reduced grille exposure |
| Bone-conduction products | Vibration transfer through direct contact |
| Compact electronics | Audio and haptics from a small footprint |
For applications that need dedicated tactile feedback technologies, our broader haptics product line remains available. These new exciters give engineers another option when audio and tactile feedback need to come from the same surface.
New PUI Audio Exciter Models
| Part Number | Dimensions, L × W × H | Impedance | Rated Power | Resonant Frequency | SPL |
| ASX02208 | 21.8 × 14 × 7.5 mm | 8 Ω | 3 W | 0.95 kHz | 95 dB |
| ASX02404 | 24 × 11 × 5 mm | 4 Ω | 0.25 W | 0.48 kHz | 78 dB |
| ASX03504 | 34.5 × 16 × 6.8 mm | 4 Ω | 1.5 W | 0.37 kHz | 83 dB |
These models are intended for engineers designing around limited internal space, sealed housings, ruggedized interfaces, or localized feedback requirements.
Designed for Audio and Touch Feedback
An exciter is not a drop-in replacement for every speaker. The mounting surface matters. Material, thickness, bond quality, and placement all affect final acoustic and haptic performance.
That is also what makes the technology useful. When properly integrated, the product structure becomes part of the output system.
Engineers can review the full launch material in our Product Launch Whitepaper: Exciters — Audio & Haptics and the Exciters New Product Highlight.
For designs that require additional support around mounting, testing, or application-specific constraints, our engineering team can assist through PUI Audio custom solutions.
Availability
Inventory for the new exciter line is expected to be available in stock in two weeks.
PUI Audio looks forward to working with customers to integrate these exciters into next-generation devices that need compact audio, sealed construction, tactile confirmation, or bone-conduction performance from a single component footprint.
